Das Internet ist das Rückgrat der modernen Gesellschaft. Um Anschluss an die internationale Entwicklung des Internets zu halten und den Technologiestandort Deutschland nicht ins Hintertreffen geraten zu lassen, muss sich auch Deutschland aktiv an der technischen Weiterentwicklung des Internets beteiligen und die Migration vom nunmehr 30 Jahre alten IPv4-Protokoll auf das technisch ausgereifte neue Internetprotokoll IPv6 mit Macht vorantreiben.
Der deutsche IPv6-Rat hat dazu in enger Abstimmung mit dem internationalen IPv6-Forum und der Europäischen Kommission einen nationalen IPv6-Aktionsplan zur zügigen flächendeckenden Einführung des neuen Internetprotokolls IPv6 entwickelt. Der Aktionsplan gibt konkrete Handlungsanweisungen und definiert einen Maßnahmenkatalog für Politik und öffentliche Verwaltung, den Bildungs- und Forschungsbereich sowie die private Wirtschaft, die es zeitnah umzusetzen gilt.
