Im Gegensatz zu Maschinen und Programmen lassen sich Benutzer nicht vollständig modellieren. Der Entwurf von Benutzerschnittstellen unterscheidet sich deshalb grundlegend von den anderen Bereichen der Informatik indem Anleihen bei Design und den empirischen Wissenschaften gemacht werden müssen.
